Growing up in the hills of Cumbria, I was always outside. It started with a simple 'den' fitted with freshly fly tipped floral carpet. Then came more elaborate shelters, where me and a friend would wittle spoons with our first pen knives. Looking back, I probably started more fires in those 'dens' then I have throughout my entire adult life.
When I stumbled across the 100 wild hut challenge, instigated by Kevin Langan, it took me out of the steel city, and straight back into the Cumbrian forests laden with wild garlic. He is building a range of survival shelters from the resources around him, then sleeping rough in them for one night, blogging about each ones effectiveness.
You got to admire this guys determination, he's 20 huts through and I hope he keeps going! See the rest of the huts here.
